On April 30, 2026, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences will become again a hotspot for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the seventh consecutive year. The Women in Data Science (WiDS) Villach conference brings together experts, visionaries, and emerging talents to provide a stage for women in the tech world and discuss the technological trends of tomorrow.

A success story: global spirit meets regional impact

Women in Data Science (WiDS) started as a conference at Stanford in November 2015. Now, WiDS includes a global conference, with approximately 200+ regional events worldwide; a datathon, encouraging participants to hone their skills using a social impact challenge; and a podcast, featuring leaders in the field talking about their work, their journeys, and lessons learned. 

In Villach we look back on an impressive success story. For the seventh time, WiDS Villach serves as a central meeting point for key regional players, where industry professionals meet researchers to exchange knowledge and forge new collaborations. In recent years, more than 1,200 data science enthusiasts have attended the WiDS Villach conferences.

This year we are bridging the gap between theory and practice

In an era where AI models are becoming increasingly complex and the race for STEM talent is intensifying, WiDS Villach 2026 asks crucial questions: How do we bridge the gap from AI theory to functional, scalable practice? How can we inspire more girls and women to pursue STEM fields? This year’s conference therefore focuses on three central pillars:

1. Inspiring STEM Careers: Experience the journey of female experts and discover the next generation of talent as students present award-winning AI projects and work from the Girls in Data Science (GiDS) initiative.
2. Applied Data Science & AI: Explore real-world use cases ranging from the optimization of industrial materials and medical ECG data analysis to AI-driven solutions for global challenges.
3. Data Ecosystems & Scalability: Gain first-hand insights into how resilient data ecosystems are created in practice, the hard facts of implementation, and the critical influence of data bias.
